Condition

Depression

Depression — often referred to as Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) or clinical depression — is a serious mental health condition. It is more than feeling sad or having a bad day. It is a persistently low mood and loss of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed, lasting for at least two weeks.

What causes depression

Depression is a multifaceted psychiatric disorder. Multiple factors may act on biological, psychological, and social levels — and it impacts multiple domains of a person's life: physical health, social relationships, and daily functioning.

There is rarely a single cause. Often it is a combination of genetic vulnerability, life stressors, hormonal shifts, sleep disruption, and patterns of thinking that compound over time.

How we treat this at IASO

Treatment begins with a thorough psychiatric assessment to understand the full picture — your history, your symptoms, and what you actually need. From there we build a plan around you: evidence-based, paced sensibly, and revisited as you progress.

Care may include psychotherapy, medication, or a combination — chosen and adjusted based on what works for you. Everything is discussed openly, and nothing is prescribed without a clear clinical reason.
