Autism in adulthood

Most people think autism is obvious. For a lot of adults, it's anything but.

Most people think autism is obvious. For a lot of adults — it's anything but.

Autism is often only found in adulthood. Not because it started late — but because it was missed.

Quiet kids get called shy. Strict routines look like good habits. Sensitivity gets ignored. And life just… continues.

Until something big changes — a new job, a loss, a relationship — and the ways you were coping stop working.

It also looks different in men and women.

In men, the signs are usually easier to spot.

In women, there's something called masking — learning to copy others, act normal, fit in. Women with autism are better at hiding their symptoms — sometimes even from themselves.

Most autistic women are still undiagnosed by age 18. Many only find out in their thirties — after years of anxiety, exhaustion, or wrong diagnoses.

At IASO, we assess adults for autism — including people who have been masking for years and never knew it.

For many, a diagnosis is a relief. It finally explains things that never made sense before.

If you've always felt different — you deserve an answer.
